Fine art pet photography is about creating timeless, elegant images that celebrate the unique personality and quiet beauty of your companion. These sessions are unhurried and intentional—focused on natural light, soft expressions, and a calm connection between you and your pet. A little thoughtful preparation helps everything feel relaxed and allows us to capture the most authentic, artful portraits possible.


Preparing Your Pet


  • Grooming: Schedule a bath and brush a day or two before the session (not the morning of, so their coat has time to settle and look natural). Trim nails if needed, and clean around the eyes and ears. We want them looking their best without any last-minute stress.
  • Energy and timing: Aim for a time of day when your pet is naturally calmer—after a good walk or play session for high-energy dogs, or when they’re typically more settled. A slightly tired but happy pet photographs beautifully.
  • Comfort items: Bring a favorite blanket, bed, or small toy that smells like home. These help your pet feel secure and give us beautiful, personal props that fit the fine art aesthetic.
  • Treats and motivation: Pack high-value treats your pet loves (soft ones work well for training focus). We’ll use them sparingly and thoughtfully so expressions stay natural rather than overly excited.
  • Health note: If your pet has any sensitivities, recent injuries, or special needs, just let me know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.


What to Wear (If You’ll Be in the Photos)


When you appear alongside your pet, clothing becomes part of the overall composition. For fine art work, we aim for a soft, cohesive, timeless look.


  • Choose earthy, muted tones—warm neutrals like soft beige, warm gray, olive, terracotta, dusty sage, cream, soft brown, or gentle charcoal.
  • Opt for simple, textured fabrics (linen, soft cotton, lightweight knits) that photograph beautifully and feel comfortable.
  • Avoid bright, neon, or highly saturated colors, busy patterns, large logos, and anything shiny or reflective. These pull attention away from the quiet connection we’re creating and can clash with the natural, painterly feel of the images.
  • Keep accessories minimal—simple jewelry or none at all works best.
  • If more than one person will be included, coordinate in the same soft color family so the group feels harmonious.


The goal is for you and your clothing to complement your pet rather than compete with them.


What to Bring

  • Any special collar, bandana, or meaningful item you’d like included (keep it simple and elegant)
  • A lint roller and a small towel
  • Yourself, dressed in earthy tones if you’ll be photographed


Day-of Tips for a Smooth Session


Arrive a few minutes early so your pet can settle into the space. We’ll start slowly—letting them explore, offering treats, and building trust before we begin photographing. Sessions are paced around your pet’s comfort; we take breaks whenever needed.

Most of all, come ready to enjoy the quiet moments with your companion. The best images often happen when everyone feels at ease.
